Sony issued a “minor” update for the PlayStation 3, which the company advertise as one that added “additional security features”. Sony has also said that it plans new updates to Google’s YouTube service in its browser.
Details of the patch, version 3.42, were not immediately available on Sony’s Web site. But the patch is widely believed to counter a USB dongle known as PS3 Jailbreak that was released in August as a way to open the game console to unauthorized modifications.
Users can automatically update their PS3 software using the console’s system update feature, or use the PC to manually apply the update.
