The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the 2011 Ford Fiesta as a ‘Top Safety Pick car.’ According to them, it is the most highly-ranked safety car of 2011.
Ford Fiesta was put to test where it performed well in a roof strength test and earned a score of “Good” in front, side, rollover and rear crash protection tests. IIHS says that “no other minicar the Institute has tested has earned top ratings in all four safety ratings.”
According to Consumer Reports: “Competitors to the Fiesta include the Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Mini Cooper, and Toyota Yaris, which all earned an Acceptable score in the roof test; the Chevrolet Aveo earned a Marginal rating.”
While all of this sounds good, there is a catch. CNN reports that “the award only applies to Fiestas built after July 2010, when Ford made design changes to minimize the possibility of doors opening in side impact crashes.”
