Do you think yourself creative enough to create your own apps? Now Google lets you do that with its newly released App Inventor for Android. App Inventor a piece of software that lets you create your own Android applications without programming knowledge.
“To use App Inventor, you do not need to be a developer. App Inventor requires NO programming knowledge. This is because instead of writing code, you visually design the way the app looks and use blocks to specify the app’s behavior.
The App Inventor team has created blocks for just about everything you can do with an Android phone, as well as blocks for doing “programming-like” stuff– blocks to store information, blocks for repeating actions, and blocks to perform actions under certain conditions. There are even blocks to talk to services like Twitter.”
How can you be creative with the App Inventor?
Using App Inventor, you can:
- Store data about users
- Create quizzes
- Access phone functions like the GPS sensor
- And create just about any app you can imagine
With App Inventor, the cold war between Apple and Google will again heat up. Apple uses an Apple-specific API and their own fingers in seemingly every step of the development process, whereas, Google’s release of App Inventor is an opening of which allows even the non-programmers to create apps.
The software uses the Open Blocks Java library that is distributed by MIT’s Scheller Teacher Education Program and runs on both Macs and PCs.
