Canon has issued Firmware 1.0.8 Update Version to fix certain glitches found in EOS Rebel T2i / 550D and the 1D Mark IV. The update promises to fix the following problems:

  1. Fixes a phenomenon in which the set aperture moves unexpectedly when shooting movies in manual exposure mode using some Canon lenses, for example macro lenses.
  2. Corrects misspellings in the French and Spanish menus for applicable products when required.

Similarly, Canon releases Firmware Version 1.0.8 for the EOS-40D digital SLR cameras also. This update incorporates following improvements and fixes:

  1. Fixes a phenomenon in which the Image Stabilization operation emits a sound from the lens when IS lenses are attached to the camera.
  2. Fixes a phenomenon in which a part of the image looks unnatural when reviewed on the LCD.
  3. Corrects errors in the Spanish and Norwegian menu screens.

Although the update is not a huge one, but it’s really useful to fix up certain minor bugs. Still, before downloading the firmware update, please be sure to read the details. However, the Version 1.0.8 firmware is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.6. If the camera’s firmware is already Version 1.0.8, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Note that cameras with the Version 1.0.8 firmware cannot be downgraded to a previous firmware version (such as Version 1.0.6).
