Android is the only big competitor to Apple iOS4 now. Its handsets are giving a tough time to Apple’s iPhone4. Even its upcoming line of phones, like Samsumg Epic, are awaited for their unique qualities. Though generally Android handsets at present are not supporting Android 2.2,(except Nexus One), still already a large share of the smartphone market is captured by them. At present around 160,000 Android handsets per day are being activated all over the world. So here is the list of top 10 best Android handsets now available in the market.
- HTC EVO 4G: The HTC EVO 4G is the first U.S phone to sport 4G connectivity. It has a massive 4.3-inch TFT display, and the usual 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. As of now, the device is available in the U.S on the Sprint network. Since it is a HTC branded phone, the device also features the slick and smooth HTC Sense UI. The phone has a decent 8MP camera at its back as well.
- Motorola Droid X: The Droid X was officially announced by Motorola just a couple of days ago. The Droid X is the king of all Android phones. Hardware wise the phone has a 1 GHz OMAP processor that is build on the 45nm fabrication process. The phone also has a 4.3-inch TFT screen, an 8MP camera with 720p video recording capability. Multi-touch keyboard or Swype, DLNA and a mini-HDMI port are present as well. The phone is currently only available in the U.S on the Verizon network.
- Google Nexus One: Google has not made the Nexus One. The phone has been manufactured by HTC, but is rebadged and sold as the Nexus One. The phone features the usual 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and 512MB of RAM. The phone has a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, which is great indoors but is a major pain outdoors. The Google Nexus One was the first phone to be running on the Android 2.1 OS. It is also the first phone to get the Android 2.2 aka Froyo update.
- Motorola Droid 2: The only phone in this list, which is yet to be officially announced. The phone in all probability will pack in a 1 GHz OMAP processor, and 512MB of RAM. The Droid 2 will be the successor to the original Droid. Motorola has just tweaked the design, and have thankfully replaced the golden d-pad found on the original Droid keyboard, with four arrow keys. Motorola will officially announce the phone sometime within the upcoming couple of months.
- Samsung Galaxy S: The Samsung Galaxy S is definitely one of the best Android phones out there in the market. The phone has a 4-inch Super-AMOLED screen. The Super-AMOLED screen on this device has a better sunlight legibility than the AMOLED screen found on other devices. In fact, the Super-AMOLED screen is considered a worthy rival of the iPhone 4G’s Retina Display. The device has a 1Ghz Hummingbird CPU, better than the 1Ghz Snapdragons CPU found in most phones.
- Sony Xperia X10: The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 features a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and packs in 384MB of RAM. The phone has a huge 4-inch TFT display, featuring a resolution of 852*480. The X10 is mainly a multimedia device. The phone has an 8MP camera, with a LED flash. The 8MP camera at the back is capable of taking decent snaps as well. Sony Ericsson has promised that the X10 will get the Android 2.1 update by Q3 of this year.
- HTC Desire: The HTC Desire is similar to the Google Nexus One. In fact, we can say that the Desire and the Nexus One are the same phone. The only difference between the HTC Desire and the Nexus One is that the Desire has 64MB more RAM than the Nexus One, and lacks the second mica for noise cancellation. The Desire also has an optical trackpad, instead of the trackball on the Nexus One. Being an HTC branded phone, the Desire features the highly popular Sense UI as well.
- Motorola Droid: The original Motorola Droid was launched in late 2009, but it is still an awesome handset. The Droid features a 3.7-inch TFT screen with WVGA resolution. The phone is powered by a 600 MHz ARM-A8 Cortex, and has 256MB of RAM. The main selling point of the Droid is that it is one of the few Android handsets out there in the market that has a full-QWERTY keyboard. The Motorola Droid won the TIME Magazine Gadget of the Year Award 2009 as well.
- HTC Legend: The HTC Legend is the successor to the HTC Hero. The HTC Hero was one of the highest selling and the most popular Android handset ever produced and had also won the Best Mobile Handset award at the Mobile World Congress 2010. The HTC Legend features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen having HVGA resolution. The phone packs in 5MP camera, 384MB of RAM, and 512MB of ROM and 600MHz processor. The Legend also runs on the popular HTC Sense UI.
