Yahoo finally to offer some relief to Android users. The company has launched a Mail and a Messenger app for the Android operating system, as well as a search widget for Android as well. The app comes free and support Android 2.0. The app has been especially designed for Motorola Droid, HTC Incredible, and Google Nexus One.

“Yahoo keeps more than 600 million consumers around the world connected to the people and things that matter to them most, wherever and whenever they want,” said David Ko, senior vice president, Americas, Audience, Mobile, and Local for Yahoo, in a statement. “With the availability of our world-class Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger apps for Android and by harnessing the latest in HTML5, we’re making it easier than ever for consumers to access fast, reliable, and feature-rich Yahoo experiences across some of the fastest growing platforms in the market.”

The Yahoo Mail For Android:

The Yahoo Mail app presents a diversity of developments optimized for Android, said Yahoo. Users can e-mail contacts from their Yahoo address book as well as from the native address book. They can upload photos from their phone’s camera or photo gallery, view and download attachments, and get push notification of new messages. Existing e-mail can be searched by sender, recipient, subject, and keywords. All messages, folders, and spam can also be managed from the app, according to Yahoo’s mobile blog.

The Messenger App For Android:

The Messenger app gives people the ability to instant-message their friends and send them photos from the camera or photo gallery, said Yahoo. They can check on the status of their friends and update their own status and availability. Push notifications will let users keep the app running in the background while they do other work, Yahoo said. Finally, the new search widget displays a Yahoo search box on the home screen of the device, allowing users to search by text or voice. A Search Assist feature offers proposal on search terms, while the auto-locate skill helps find local results depending on the user’s location, according to Yahoo. Users can look for local listings of current movies and TV episodes, watch trailers, and pick up the latest gossip about their beloved celebrities. The new mobile app is part of the company’s “IMDb Everywhere” proposal in which it now offers mobile apps for Apple and Android devices and lets people view and share IMDb content through Facebook and Twitter.

Note: Yahoo has also refreshed its Mail and News sites for Apple’s iOS devices by adding support for HTML5. Both of the Mail and Messenger apps can be downloaded via the Android market, but they’re only available for devices with Android 2.0 or higher.
