iPhone 4 Fans And Fanatics On The Pilgrimage
Finally the grand iPhone 4 lands stores in U.S. today, after a launch following in Japan, Germany, France, and the U.K. Huge- immense crowd was lined up today to get the upgraded version of the phone. But the surprising part was despite early shipment to some customers and limited iPhone supplies, the crowds still turned up at Apple Stores across the country. Probability lies that Apple might sell a record 1 million iPhones today itself.
“It’s like the olden days of waiting in line for tickets to a rock concert,” said John Whalen, a publisher of Cider Mill Press in Kennebunkport, Maine. “There isn’t anything I wait in line for other than the technology releases from Apple.” Many others like John were lined up outside the Apple outlets and shared a same craving story for the phone.
The same happened at the Westfarms Apple Store in Farmington, Connecticut. Jerod Dikeman and Bill Brookshire were the first in the reservation line-where they had been standing since 7 p.m. the night before. “Gotta be part of the party, right?” said Dikeman, gesturing to a series of Red Bull soda cans on the floor.
Well the same fun was spotted outside U.S. also. “Queuing is half the fun, it feels like you are part of something special,” said 28 year-old Manabu Ishiyama, who works in retail in Tokyo, and was second in line after arriving at 8 p.m. on June 21. “The screen is incredible and it has a front- facing camera, I can’t wait to try it out with Skype.”
The updated model adds video calling, multitasking and a high-definition video camera to the iPhone 4 and made it faster and even thinner. Its also redesigned from prior models, with a better display, a glass front and back, and a stainless-steel frame that doubles as an antenna. Since it became available for pre-orders on June 15, it has been in such demand that AT&T Inc., Apple’s exclusive U.S. wireless carrier, was forced to halt pre-orders. AT&T said pre-order volumes were 10 times higher than for the iPhone 3GS last year.
The iPhone 4 is available in 16GB and 32GB capacities for $199 and $299, respectively. The phone is initially available in black, with a white model of the phone delayed until July.
