The Lexus SC 430 which allowed the coupe to go from 0-60 in just 6.2 seconds will be a part of history as Lexus makes it official to discontinue SC 430 after July 2010. Showcased as a sports convertible at the Paris Motor Show in 2000- the car entered production in March of the following year. Power was provided by a 4.3 L 3UZ-FE V8 engine with variable valve timing (VVT-i) mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and could produce 288 hp (214.76 kW) and 430 N·m (317 lb·ft) of torque.
Autoblog writes: “Aside from a handful of special edition models, the SC430 has soldiered on largely unchanged for the better part of a decade, and with less than 1,000 SCs sold last year and a final run of around 300 slated to be built in 2010, its demise will likely go unnoticed save a few octogenarians that pick up a new Pebble Beach Edition each summer.”
Despite its lack of updates, the SC 430 is an remarkable machine. “With 288 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque on tap from its 4.3-liter V-8 engine, the SC430 was no slouch, capable of hustling from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 149 mph,” explains Automobile Magazine. Unfortunately for the SC 430, the class of Super Luxury Sports Cars is just too competitive for it to remain unchanged for so long.
Perhaps that’s why Lexus is already planning its successor. “The next generation is supposed to be called the SC 600h and will be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 matched to a hybrid electric system,” reports Top Speed. “Competition for this model is said to be the Mercedes SL-Class.”
So what do you think on this? Are you going to miss this fast-coupe or will wait for something more fast and exciting?
