“We will see 20 unique android devices over the next 7 months”, claims Motorola’s Tom Satchwell, Director of Marketing for Mobile Devices. I think gone are the days when 20 handsets were launched by may be 20 different manufactures- and now with Android, things are changing.

According to a latest report published by Phandroid, Motorola is expected to launch 20 new unique android handsets this year. Phandroid was quoted, “we already know Motorola likes to launch the same devices with different names and slightly different internals and externals, but that is all up for debate still. It’s also very easy to forget about the smaller phones Motorola will be launching for regional carriers such as the Motorola i1 for Boost and the phone they’ve allegedly got headed for Metro PCS, both here in the United States.”

Well 20 handsets is no small number- and it’s quite interesting for me. Regardless of the devices being unique, the better part is atleast we will have something motivating from the MOTO this year. Indeed today, Motorola XT720 Milestone Android Smartphone was also released In UK.

The XT720 Milestone boasts of a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen WVGA display  along with many features like 8MP camera with a Xenon flash & a 10x digital zoom. The device wears a sleek look with 10.9mm in thickness. Apart from that there is a HDMI port which allows high definition content to be streamed to a compatible device.

This Motorola model runs with a Qualcomm ARM-based processor and is laden with the Androidom 2.1 Eclair OS. However, there is no Motoblur user interface that is very common on most of the Android handsets. Motorola XT72 is expected to come on 11th of June and the carrier would T-Mobile.

Recently, Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha also revealed in a statement that Motorola is ready to put the final touches on an Android-based tablet. So hope to hear some news about this tablet soon.

Note: Google’s Android is a mobile operating system, an assemblage of 47 hardware, software and telecom companies. Being an open-source operating system, Android allows developers to design applications independent of the handset type.
