What if we have a handset that will have twice as much the processing power as the latest smartphones? This would mean- higher quality graphics, games and better video chat! Motorola is exactly planning a super phone like this- an Android Device with a 2-GHz processor, boosting twice as much the processing power as the latest smartphones.

According to Sanjay Jha, CEO of Motorola’s consumer business and mobile devices division, the company will have a 2GHz smartphone by the end of the year. Jha spoke at the Executives Club of Chicago on Wednesday, where he proposed a super phone with which Motorola hopes to raise the stakes in the Android race. Known already, Motorola and HTC are leading the development of some of the best Android phones available today. However, from where Motorola will get its monster mobile chip is not clear. None of the major chip makers have said anything so far about a 2-Ghz phone processor — which makes us speculate if Motorola’s daydream will be realized this year!

Most smartphones today, including the Google Nexus One, the HTC Evo and the HTC Incredible make use of the 1-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Apple has its own A4 processor that’s capable of up to 1 GHz speed, making clear that if launched, the device would create history. (Theoretically, the ARM A9 chip can go up to 2 GHz but we haven’t seen any implementations, so far, that reach that mark.)

Motorola also stated that video conferencing will be a big feature for its new upcoming devices. In a bid to compete with the video conferencing feature on the iPhone 4 and HTC’s Evo 4G, Motorola adds it plans to offer its own video conferencing software on two to four new handsets later this year. But, Jha didn’t mention any precise models, yet said that the upcoming phones will have front-facing cameras for video chat. Moto is really making a strong ground I guess!

Jha also forecasted that within a few years most corporations will give their employees smartphones instead of notebooks! According to an unidentified Motorola executive, the new phone will “incorporate everything that is technologically possible in a smartphone today.” According to this executive, the phone will be Android based, and comprise a gyroscope and Nvidia Tegra-based graphics processor with full Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration. Wow!
