According to a latest Gizmodo post today, Apple’s iTunes have surpassed Walmart and Best Buy, accounting over 26% Of Music Sales in US. To say, iTunes now sells more music than both Walmart and Best Buy put together these days.
According to Billboard, iTunes’ share of music sales has increased from 21.4% in 2008, to 26.7% last year, making them the top retailer for music in the US. But this news comes more as a “known fact to us.” And I am sure if you are one of the readers of this post, this means you are iTunes customer too. Apple customer’s are always at an advantage.
Late back in February, Louie Sulcer of Woodstock, Ga., clicked the “Buy Song” button at an opportune time, downloading the “10 billionth song” from the company’s iTunes Store since the site went active in April 2003 and received a $10,000 iTunes gift card for his fortuitous purchase of Johnny Cash’s “Guess Things Happen That Way.” Mr. Sulcer, a 71-year-old retired real estate broker, said in an interview that he learned about his achievement when Steve Jobs, the chief executive of Apple, had called him himself to inform about his gift. Well miracle happens to Apple customers.
But Apple is not way behind in other countries also. Recently in France and Ireland, (April 30th) Apple had announced that movies from major film studios including 20th Century Fox, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM), Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Studios, The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Entertainment, as well as European studios including Pathé, SND and StudioCanal will now be available on the iTunes Store for rent or purchase. The iTunes Store is offering top-rated movies including “Avatar,” “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” “Up,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “LOL,” “Coco” and “La première étoile.”
iTunes’ simplicity makes discovering and enjoying movies as simple and easy as buying music on iTunes has always been. So stay tuned with iTunes.
