After Apple delayed its International Shipment of iPad tablet, now its turn for the local U.S citizens to wait until they would be delivered their pre-ordered models. Though the company is struggling to meet high demands, still Apple Inc.’s customers who ordered 3G models of its iPad would now receive the tablet computer after May 7, a few days later than expected.

The iPad has been available for a few weeks now, but only the Wi-Fi version. However, lets hope that the 3G models will not be postponed further than May 7. 3G connectivity will only be available through AT&T, Apple’s single iPhone partner in the United States and there have been significant complaints about both the accessibility and dependability of AT&T’s 3G network. That said, the 3G iPad still offers a compelling solution for business professionals on the go. Notebooks with 3G connectivity, or using a 3G USB modem or tethered to a 3G mobile device, do offer an advantage over the Wi-Fi-only iPad models in that they are capable of connecting to Internet and Web-based resources from virtually anywhere, rather than relying on the availability of a Wi-Fi network. Though the 3G convenience comes monthly price with a contractual compulsion to pay it whether it is used or not. Mobile business professionals have the 3G functionality as an insurance plan that can be activated on the fly if needed, and turned back off just as easily, costing a reasonable $15 or $30 cost depending on whether the 250Mb plan or unlimited monthly access is selected.

The iPad isn’t without its boundaries, and it won’t completely substitute a notebook or desktop PC for the vast majority of users, but the 3G iPad offers a solid mix of efficiency and mobile connectivity in a more convenient and longer-lasting form factor that make it ideal for mobile business professionals. The iPad’s initial release only included models that run on Wi-Fi networks, starting at $499. The newer versions will cost at least $629. Both types let users surf the Web, watch videos, listen to music and play games on a touch screen.
