Though iPad sales made tremendous records in U.S selling more than 500,000 models, still it brought some bad news for the international market.Apple announced this morning that due to strong sales of the Apple iPad, they have delayed international delivery for about a month. Now International delivery will take place at the end of May. Details and pre-orders will be announced on May 10th along with its international pricing.
Apple commented in a blog posting, “Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.” Apple was not ready for this unexpectedly high demand. But they also started taking pre-orders and this apparently outpaced supply. And for sure, Apple was not going to hold back on the volume of sales in the United States. So the decision was to hold back sales in the international market.
Steve Jobs had already mentioned during the iPhone OS 4.0 demo that the iPad demand was more than expected and it seems that this was good enough to interrupt the international shipment. According to Wall Street Journal, the decision was taken as a large number of pre-orders are booked for delivery by the end of April of iPad 3G models. But this controversy leads to numerous questions like is there a real shortage or is it any production issue or is it about the pricing that led to such a decision.
