Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 is all ready to appear with new loaded features later this year. Microsoft offered a glimpse of its first major update on its blog which said that the new update will bring a range of new features and capabilities to the back office mail server software, including improvements to the software’s archiving functionality and to its Web client. The update will allow users to set up an archive folder that could be located in a mailbox separate from the primary mailbox, which could better help administrators keep their main e-mail databases at convenient sizes.
The company also released Beta 2 of Windows HPC Server 2008 R2, the version designed at the kind of computing clusters used in education, the life sciences, finance and other areas. Among the features in the new beta is the ability to use Windows 7-based desktops as nodes within a figure cluster and take advantage of the processing power of graphics chips within a cluster. Microsoft is also adding broader support for Excel with a set of high-performance computing services for Excel 2010. The browser client, called Outlook Web Access will get some noteworthy new features with this release as well. The client may seem faster to end-users, thanks to its ability to “pre-fetch” messages and run multiple operations concurrently. The release will also bring enhancements in the administrative interfaces and searching capabilities. It will also roll up all the features and repair fixes since the first release of Exchange 2010.
Besides this, Microsoft released a version of its Dynamics CRM product that is adapted for non-profit and non-governmental organizations. In addition to the standard relationship management features, this version adds support for things like donation and pledge management, membership management, volunteer tracking, campaign management, as well as dashboard reports and online payments.
“It’s an exciting time for high performance computing at Microsoft as we work to put supercomputing power in the hands of those who need it most,” product unit manager Ryan Waite said in a blog posted at its website.
