Now what the iPad has in store for us? Something tough to guess on. Now the iPad will be a perfect replacement for our television sets. The list of apps for tablet is soon going to include Netflix app allowing viewers for instant streaming of videos, TV shows and movies from its available catalogue. Netflix, the service offering online flat rate DVD and Blu-ray disc rental by mail and video streaming in the United States, has combined collection of around 100,000 titles and approximately 10 million subscribers.
The app is free if you are a Netflix subscriber with an unlimited subscription option in order to use it. You won’t be able to view more than a fraction of Netflix’s current catalogue, including new releases but if you’re a film fan, there should be plenty of choices when you’re ready to choose from. All you need to pay is one flat monthly fee for accessing it on a range of devices. Presently Netflix streaming on PCs requires Silverlight to serve up the video. But till now, iPad neither supports Silverlight nor Flash, no word on how the clips will play on the iPad. Conceivably Netflix can use a app similar to the iPhone’s YouTube app, which streams video without Flash.
If the App Advice news is correct, the iPad app would be the next step in Netflix’s online strategy. Last week, the company declared it had begun shipping streaming discs to some Nintendo Wii owners in the U.S. And earlier this year, Netflix announced plans to expand streaming video into an unnamed international market. Optimistically Netflix will be able to take some time to further optimize this app for the iPad display and touch screen, but in the interim, it’s definitely one of the best reasons we can think of to sign on to Apple’s new device. So just grab an account and get going.
