Nvidia on Friday launched two new fastest graphics cards, GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 which will be able to play back 3D movies on PCs and bring more realistic images to games. Nvidia’s new graphics processing unit architecture is called Fermi. The card is based on Nvidia’s new Fermi architecture. It has over 3 billion transistors, double the processing units of its predecessors and a strong emphasis on geometric realism. Nvidia’s Fermi page is chocked full of information and demonstrations, and includes white papers detailing the strides made.

The anticipated market price is $500, while its competitor card ATI’s Radeon HD 5870 is available at $400. The 5870′s bigger brother would be the next logical step, but that’s a dual GPU card at an estimate price of $700. The price is worth compared to its features. Its equipped with Intel’s Core i7 975 Extreme Edition processor, a DX58SO motherboard, 6 GB of RAM, and a 1300W power supply. All tests were performed at 1920 by 1200 and 2560 by 1600 resolutions on a 30″ display, and highest settings.

Nvidia finally joins the DirectX 11 supporting graphics card game with ATI. Earlier Nvidia kept a low profile with its next generation Fermi GF100 graphics architecture. By ways, now it would be possible to have a 3D experience at home and now we no more need colour glasses to enjoy this experience. Thanks to Nvidia for making all this so affordable for us. But some benchmarks also suggest that NVIDIA’s newest architecture is too little, too late and too hot. But lets wait before someone actually proves it.
