Amid controversies and being in news for so long, finally iPad will hit store shelves next week. But this week, here comes news for iPad again. iPhone hacker George Hotz has established a new technique to permanently “jailbreak” the iPhone 3GS, and he said the hack will probably work on the iPad too. This week, Geohot, updated his blog and added a video demonstrating a jailbroken iPhone 3GS being rebooted. Though he did not mention any release date but he claims that it will work on the iPad, Apple’s new tablet device. But the question is that will it work on iPhones running the latest iPhone update from Apple, OS 3.1.3?
Jailbreaking is a practice that allows users to run unidentified code on the iPhone OS, which powers the iPhone, iPod touch and forthcoming iPad. It invalids the warranty and can open up the device to security issues, but can also be used to allow new features like multitasking. “The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1in,” Hotz said, referencing his previous iPhone 3GS crack that employed a method known as a tethered jailbreak. “It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models- ipt2, 3gs, ipt3, and will probably work on iPad too.” Many jailbreaking tools are available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, including blackra1n and RedSn0w but these programs almost fails when Apple’s iPhone OS update 3.1.3 comes in action, which can disable most of these jailbreaking software programs.
While iPhone users can rely on jailbreaking to unlock their handset for use with unauthorized carriers, the 3G-capable version of the iPad, scheduled to arrive in April, ships unlocked by default. However, its 3G frequencies are only compatible with AT&T in the U.S. But now the challenge is how efficient is Hotz latest invention and if it proves it worth……then what will be Appleās answer?
