‘The Country’s 4G Smartphone,’ HTC Evo 4G was unveiled in Las Vegas on March 23 by the telecommunications giant Sprint. At a CTIA Wireless Conference 2010, Sprint and HTC announced the first 4G handset that will be built on Google’s mobile operating system. The device was demonstrated by Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse. Other phones that were launched on the same platform were the Google Nexus One (also made by HTC), the HTC HD2, Acer Liquid, and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

Counting down its features , The HTC Evo 4G will come complete with a spacious 4.3-inch capacitive display, which Sprint noted for perfect video viewing and Web browsing, (approx. 30 percent bigger than the iPhone’s screen), 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon (QSD8650) processor, 8 megapixel dual flash camera, and a 1.3 megapixel forward facing camera. Add Android 2.1, 4G WiMAX/3G EV-DO Rev. A, the ability to act as an 8 device 4G hotspot, an FM radio, Bluetooth 2.1, digital compass, proximity, velocity, and light sensors, GPS and 3.5mm headphone and HDMI output. Besides this, all the regular functions of Android like voice to text searching and thousands of Market applications will be available at speeds of up to 10 times what the other 3G Android phones can do.

Sprint’s 4G network, which was the first of its kind to be launched out in the country, is currently available in 27 markets in the US. But still the price and its time of availability is a big secret, though it is expected to come in summers. As Sprint has been working hard to narrow its financial losses, which totaled $980 million for the fourth quarter, we just hope that HTC Evo 4G proves to be a big relief.
