Shigeru Miyamoto, revealed his next project, says he is developing Nintendo Wii to be used as an educational tool in the future. The man responsible for creating Mario, discusses his dream project at the BAFTAs 2010 were he came to receive a Fellowship award in London from a British Media Group. He said that his next project neither involves Mario, Zelda nor involves any other specific game, but involves Nintendo DS systems to be used in schools as a learning aid. He also added that that according to him, education and video games have been mixing practically but the idea of educational games always remained a secondary concern.

When Miyamoto was 33 years, his initial vision helped him to create games like Wii Fit and Wii Music, something different than shooters and RPGs. Now he wants to concentrate on education. Addressing an interview, Miyamoto said the portable DS system is already set to be used in junior high and elementary schools in Japan starting in the new school year.

Miyamoto have received numerous awards during his span of career, but completing this project will be something special to him. Japan plays an important role in his move as his idea originates from there itself. In Japan, Nintendo’s portable platform has been used as a tour guide in museums, as marked by CrunchGear. With the Wii serving as a method of physical training with the likes of Wii Fit, the establishment of DS as a learning tool also seems like a obvious step for Nintendo.
