Who first stepped on the moon? The new Samsung Wave S8500 with Bada
cell phones | vijay | February 16, 2010 at 9:29 amYes it is official, the Samsung Wave S8500 — the first phone to feature its own smart phone OS revealed at the MWC.
Samsung Bada (which means ocean in Korean and is meant to represent the “limitless variety” of the platform) is a fully-fledged smart phone platform that enables the creation of a variety of applications on a wide-range of Samsung mobile devices. And features like a push calendar, integrated contacts, and many more. Samsung now offers its own app store and open platform that developers can take advantage of.
Samsung Wave S8500 is a slim handset (4.64 inches long by 2.2 inches wide by 0.42 inch deep) , powered by a 1 GHz processor, 3.3-inch super-AMOLED touch screen, latest TouchWiz 3.0 user interface and memory that range from 2 GB to 8GB, with a microSD expansion slot.
In addition, under the hood is a Wi-Fi a media player, an accelerometer and proximity sensor, Samsung’s Dolfin Browser, assisted-GPS, text and multimedia messaging, e-mail, RSS reader, voice commands, a 5-Megapixel camera with an LED flash, and (thankfully) a 3.5mm headset jack. What’s more, the Wave is one of the first Samsung phones to support Bluetooth 3.0, data…data..data.data lot faster data.
Sadly, the S8500 doesn’t have a flash, is on the slower side. Also, with its smart phone platform, we can’t be sure how good its support would be from third-party developers — be it apps or games. The S8500 will be available in the Asian market by the second quarter of the year and its pricing will be announced with its launch.
