Chevy Volt Gets 230 MPG In City: 25 New Models By 2011

General Motors calling its Chevy Volt as “game changer” has claimed that the rechargeable electric car will get 230 mpg, or 25 kilowatt hours per 100 miles in city driving.
The claim has yet to be verified by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, which tests for mileage figures posted on new car stickets.
GM Chief Executive Fritz Henderson said the Volt would get a “triple-digit” fuel economy rating for combined highway and city driving based on a draft standard developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The Volt extended range electric vehicle (or plug-in hybrid) can travel up to 40 miles on a full battery charge, G.M. said. Beyond that electric range, a small gas engine kicks in to supply enough charge in the battery to power the electric motor.
GM will unveil 25 new models between now and the end of 2011, president and CEO Fritz Henderson said during an hour-long webcast this morning.
