Square Enix is busy preparing ground for its upcoming massively multiplayer online role playing game in short “MMORPG”, the Final Fantasy XIV. Game Analyst are exited with the news updates regarding the latest technologies this latest version of famous online game is coming with.
New updates to the gameplay section of the Final Fantasy XIV website reveal how the PlayStation 3 and PC MMO will approach a few of the problems that plague online games. The website contains information on the game world’s storyline, locations, and races. There’s also a brief overview of the game’s mechanics, such as the different “disciplines” (sets of skills) a player can specialize in.
Four disciplines can be sampled at will: “War” for straight combat (pictured above), “Magic” for spell-power, “Land” for resource gathering and “Hand” for crafting. This flexibility ought to make it easier for players to quickly change roles, rather than forcing them to build an arsenal of “alt” characters for every occasion.
By coordinating the kinds of Guildleves (license for accomplishing quests) each party member is carrying, friends can embark on group adventures. At first blush, these doodads seem to help make group play productive for friends who are on different quests.
Players’ adventures in Final Fantasy XIV focus on the land of Eorzea, which is divided into a group of independent city-states immersed in an “uneasy peace” after years of conflict, the site describes. Players will be able to quickly teleport between city-states using devices created using a special crystal called Aetheryte.
These additions in Final Fantasy XIV seems to indicate that Square Enix has learned more than a few lessons from their last foray into online play. And they’re coming at these problems from a fairly unique angle.
