LG at its annual show in New York unveiled its SL80 and SL90 HDTV, both are ultraslim model but SL90 is an LED and still a prototype. These two models will surely give LG a new boost as 95 percent of LED market in U.S.A is already captured by Samsung.
LG calls its latest model as “borderless” design and can surely be termed as first edge to edge screen model from LG as the bezel is only an inch thick.
SL80 Features: The SL80 line of LCD HDTVs utilizes the older CCFL backlight technology but is equipped with the newer TruMotion 240Hz system. Just 1.8″ thick at its slimmest point, the SL80 will be available in 42 inch, 47 inch and 55 inch model. The price of 42 inch model will be $1,599 and of 47 and 55 inch model, the cost is $1,899 and $2,799 respectively.
SL90 Features: The SL90 uses LED backlighting technology with local dimming with most of the features same as that of SL80. The SL90 LG had on display was still a prototype, so not much was revealed by the company. The SL90 Series will be available in 42-inch and 47-inch screen. The SL90 Series supports 120Hz for improved fast-motion performance, but not LG’s even better 240Hz technology. The company official explained that the SL90 LG could only be produced with 120Hz technology because the edgelit backlighting used by the LEDs can’t be used in conjunction with the scanning backlight technology used by the company’s approach to 240Hz. The Sl90 will be available in the market in the month of October 2009 but the price is not yet announced.
