A separate Renegade Edition of DJ Hero game includes a premium version of the TurnTable controller, a hard case that converts to a DJ stand, and an exclusive two pack CD with unreleased tracks of Eminem and JayZ.
The “Renegade Edition” comes with an all-black turntable controller (the standard one has a grey turntable base with grey risen dots surrounding the plate, plus grey controls; the Renegade is solid black with gold dots and gold metal controls). The carrying case converts into a performance stand to put the controller on.
The controller for the game is shaped like a record platter, and by spinning and scratching the record at specific times, players can reenact mash-ups and hip-hop staples. Artists contributing to the game thus far include Grandmaster Flash, DJ AM, DJ Shadow, the Beastie Boys and DJ Z-Trip, with more contributors expected to be announced.
Several mash-ups have already been revealed for the final game:
- “Feel Good Inc.” by the Gorillaz vs. “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye
- “Jayou” by Jurassic 5 vs. “Rockit” by Herbie Hancock
- “Shout” by Tears for Fears vs. “Pjanoo” by Eric Prydz
- “Bustin’ Loose” by Chuck Brown vs. “Time of the Season” by the Zombies (DJ Shadow Mix)
- “All Apologies” by Nirvana vs. “Give It to Me Baby” by Rick James (DJ Shadow Mix)
- “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie vs. “Jack of Spades” by KRS One (DJ Shadow Mix)
Pricing for the pack has not yet been announced, but the standard edition of the game is set to retail for $120. Activision has also released a video of Jay-Z and Eminem conveniently performing the track “Renegade,” which can be checked out below.
