The benchmark to test any laptop is to check its ability to play games as for gaming you need high performance processors, dedicated graphics cards and a lot of system memory. With these consideration here is a list of top five laptops available in the market.
1) HP Voodoo Firefly: Voodoo PC has been making high quality gaming centric computer systems for many years unlike other manufacturers they provide wide range of color customization for the systems.
A result of a joint venture between HP and Voodoo the Firefly gaming laptop will have two displays, the main 17.1 inch display with 1920 X 1200 resolution and a small 4.3 inch display located just below the main screen. Armed with Intel’s 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core processor, 4GB of RAM, a pair of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 GPUs running in CrossFire mode, and a 7,200rpm 250GB hard drive it is able to play any games at max settings.
2) Alienware m17x: Alienware m17x is providing users with the most advanced graphics possible and has 2 NVIDIA 9800M GT 512MB graphics cards running in S:I mode along with a built in subwoofer. Spec wise the Alienware m17x comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, twin GPUs for great SLI action, a WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) display, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, lots of hard drive space, a dual-layer DVD writer (or optional Blu-ray burner), several ports and a 12-cell battery that lasts about an hour.
3) Dell XPS M1730: This Dell’s high-end gaming laptop comes with a Core 2 Extreme X9000 mobile CPU running at 2.8GHz, a pair of GeForce 8800M GTX cards in SLI, and two 200GB 7200 RPM drives in RAID 0 configuration.
Available in four flavors: Crimson Red, Sapphire Blue, Bone White, and Smoke Grey. The notebook is SLI-ready and DirectX 10 compatible, due to the two GeForce Go 8700M GT GPUs with 256MB found under its casing, but Dell has thought at future technology advancements too and will offer a graphics upgrade program when next-generation graphics processor is available.
4) Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q725: Featuring Intel’s quad-core processor and two NVIDIA video cards Qosmio X305 provides lifelike textures on a 17-inch diagonal widescreen and amazing sound effects from four Harman Kardon stereo speakers.
Toshiba’s new gaming notebook model sports a 1.3MP web camera, HDMI, DisplayPort, and VGA outputs, as well as an Atheros 802.11b/g/n wireless module, Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, 56k modem, and Bluetooth.
5) Gateway P-7811: It’s powered by an Intel Core Duo P8400 2.26GHz, 3MB L2 cache with 1066MHz FSB processor, PM45 Express chipset, nVidia GeForce 9800M-GTS along with 512MB GDDR3 graphics, 8x DVD burner, 17 inch WUXGA display, eSATA, 5-in-1 card reader, 1.3 megapixel camera, HDMI 1.2.
The P-7811 FX is a solid mainstream gamer that skips the extreme processor and SLI graphics, and replaces them with more reasonable gear in order to save money.
That is to say that the P-7811 FX is more than enough to play today’s games, even something like Crysis at 1920×1200, but it’s not the powerhouse that we see at the upper echelons from a company like Alienware.
